Watermelon Farm Owner Sees Strong
A family-owned watermelon farm in southern Georgia is reporting a successful harvest as strong consumer demand and favorable growing conditions boost sales during the peak summer season.
Farm owner Michael Turner said warm temperatures and timely rainfall helped produce a high-quality watermelon crop this year. While rising fuel, fertilizer, and labor costs continued to challenge operations, improved yields helped offset many of those expenses.
"We've had one of our best harvests in recent years," Turner said. "Customers are looking for fresh, locally grown watermelons, and we're proud to deliver a quality product."
The farm supplies regional grocery stores, farmers markets, and roadside produce stands throughout the Southeast. It also welcomed thousands of visitors during its annual summer harvest festival, where families enjoyed farm tours, fresh produce, and community activities.
Agricultural experts say many U.S. watermelon growers are investing in precision irrigation, soil monitoring technology, and sustainable farming practices to improve efficiency while conserving water. These efforts are helping producers manage changing weather conditions and maintain consistent crop quality.
Turner plans to expand the farm's packing facilities next year and introduce new seedless watermelon varieties to meet growing consumer demand.
"As farming continues to evolve, we're committed to producing the best fruit possible while protecting our land for future generations," Turner said.
With summer demand remaining strong, the farm expects shipments to continue through the remainder of the harvest season, supporting local businesses and bringing fresh Georgia-grown watermelons to consumers across the region.
